A devastating Cyclone has struck Mozambique and Zimbabwe affecting 1.8 million people. The destruction has resulted in widespread flooding and mass damage to homes and buildings. The humanitarian needs are enormous.
In Mozambique, and particularly the city of Beira, in the centre of the country, has been the hardest hit. Ninety percent of the area around Beira has been destroyed, with roads, electricity and communications having been cut off, and buildings have been submerged and severely damaged, including the hospital. Hundreds of people have been confirmed to have died, and authorities expect the toll to be much higher.
MAA is working with local partners on the ground to provide immediate relief to those affected by the cyclone.
